Union College senior Sebastiaan Jansen has compiled Liberty League-leading totals of 20 goals and 44 points this season. Jansen also holds the Union single-season record for goals (20) and career record for points (107). He also leads the Liberty League with nine game-winning goals in the 12 Union wins. Through national rankings of October 28, Jansen ranks fourth in both goals per game (1.25) and total goals and fifth in points per game in Division III. He has been named Liberty League offensive performer of the week four times.
Defensive Player of the Year: Zander Mrlik, Sr., Defender, Vassar College
As a defender, Vassar College senior Zander Mrlik has anchored a defense that ranks third in the league with a 0.85 goals against average. He has also scored or assisted in every Liberty League game except for two this season. Mrlik recorded a game-winning goal against Hobart and recorded key assists in wins over Clarkson and Bard. He currently ranks in the top 100 in assists in Division III. Coach Andy Jennings has stated, “Zander is the heart and soul of everything we do offensively and defensively. He has had the single greatest impact on a game of any player I've ever coached.”
Rookie of the Year: Jacob Fox, Fr., Forward, Hobart College
Hobart College freshman forward Jacob Fox ranked third on the team with 11 points on five goals and an assist this season. Fox notched the game-winning goals in victories over Clarkson and Skidmore. He was tabbed the Liberty League Rookie of the Week after scoring his first collegiate goal, the game-tying tally, in what proved to be a 2-1 double-overtime Statesmen victory at St. John Fisher. In Liberty League play, Fox is tied for fifth with three goals in eight matches. He is tied for 10th overall in the conference in goals.
Coaching Staff of the Year: Vassar College - Andy Jennings, head coach; Charles Wilder, goalkeeper coach; Ross Macklin, student-assistant coach
Andy Jennings and his staff coached the Brewers to their first-ever regular season championship title, entering postseason play with an 11-4-2 overall record and a 5-1-2 mark in the Liberty League. It was also the first regular-season title for a Vassar men’s team. Vassar has lost only one Liberty League game in its last 12 games. Jennings’s team also excelled academically as the Brewers earned an NSCAA Academic Award with 15th-highest GPA across all 219 programs that won the award in Division I, II, and III.
