The Liberty League has announced the major award winners from the 2012-13 men’s squash season. St. Lawrence freshman and College Squash Association National Champion Amr Khaled Khalifa earned both player of the year and rookie of the year honors. The Rochester coaching staff, led by head coach Martin Heath, was recognized as the coaching staff of the year.

St. Lawrence freshman Amr Khaled Khalifa was selected as both the player of the year and rookie of the year for the men’s squash season. Khalifa was 15-0 in his first collegiate season and helped the Saints to a sixth-place national ranking, the highest-ever for the program, as well as the team’s first appearance in the A Division of the College Squash Association (CSA) championships.  In March, Khalifa swept top-seeded Todd Harrity of Princeton 3-0 to win the CSA National Championship.  En route to his title, Khalifa upset defending national champion Ali Farag of Harvard in a come from behind victory. 

Coaching Staff of the Year
University of Rochester – Martin Heath, Head Coach

The University of Rochester coaching staff, led by Head Coach Martin Heath, was voted as coaching staff of the year for the second straight season.  Rochester finished with an 11-6 record and fifth in the nation after defeating St. Lawrence 5-4 in the CSA national championship tournament. Heath and assistant coach Hameed Ahmed also led Rochester to their sixth straight  Liberty League Championship after finishing the round robin tournament 4-0, defeating St. Lawrence 5-4 in the final match to successfully defend the title.
