Bob Lowe Named Liberty League Director of Communications

TROY, NY – Bob Lowe has been named director of communications of the Liberty League, announced Conference Commissioner Tracy King.

Lowe has been involved in collegiate athletics for nearly 15 years in various communication and administrative roles. He will handle communications for the 11-member Division III league beginning January, 1 2012.

"We are excited to add Bob Lowe to our staff," said Liberty League commissioner Tracy King. "Bob is a respected communications professional with strong experience at the Division III level. As national chair of the CoSIDA technology/computer committee, he has proven himself to be an innovator and a leader in the use of new media and technology. Bob will be a tremendous asset to the Liberty League as we seek to enhance the experience of our student-athletes through our communication initiatives.”

Lowe was hired as Greensboro College's sports information director in the fall of 1999 and served through March 2011. He provided publicity for GC's 18 intercollegiate athletic teams and was promoted to assistant athletic director for communications in 2008. Lowe has most recently been running his own firm: rblowemedia.net.

Lowe was selected to serve on the College Sports Information Directors of America Board of directors in 2010. A college division representative from the Southeast region, he was one of 16 elected board members representing the more than 2400 sports information professionals in the USA and Canada.

A driving force behind PrideNet/PrideTV, which offers live and archived broadcasts of Greensboro College athletic events, Lowe was also responsible for upgrading the college's athletic website-- including the new greensborocollegesports.com launch in August of 2008.

In 2004 and '05, Lowe served as media coordinator for the NCAA Division III men's and women's soccer championships. The championships returned to Greensboro again in the fall of 2008.

Lowe serves on the CoSIDA new media/technology committee, and has had a number of professional articles published in the CoSIDA Digest. In July of 2008 Lowe was selected to the inaugural D3-SIDA Board: an advisory group that represents NCAA Division III SIDs for CoSIDA. He served as chairman of the CoSIDA New Media/Technology committee from 2003 to '10.

In the summer of 2002, Lowe helped form the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA). Since that time, NCCSIA has honored more than 1,200 "All State" student-athletes. Lowe served as both the organization's treasurer and past president.

A native of Whittier, Ca., Lowe received a bachelor's degree in journalism from San Diego State University. He was the sports information director at Santa Ana (Calif.) College for three years prior to arriving in Greensboro.

"The membership of the Liberty League represents many of the finest academic and athletic institutions in the nation. I look forward to growing the Liberty League's visibility with the changing media environment."

Lowe and his wife, Kim, have a 14-year-old daughter, Brinley. Lowe is also a certified college men's lacrosse official and competed in a mini-triathlon in 2009.

Originally founded as the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) in 1995, the conference was renamed the Liberty League during the summer of 2004. The Liberty League includes founding members Clarkson University; Hobart and William Smith Colleges; the University of Rochester; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; St. Lawrence University; Skidmore College; and Union College.

Vassar College became a full member of the league during the 2000-01 academic year.B ard College and Rochester Institute of Technology joined in the 2011-12 academic year. Founding member Hamilton College departed following the 2010-11 academic year in order to integrate its athletic programs within the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is an associate member in the sports of football and men's golf, while Worcester Polytechnic Institute is an associate member in football only. Springfield College joins as an associate member in football for the 2012 season.
